“And we’re home,” Kevin smiled as he came down the driveway.

“It’ll be nice to see Norma again,” Sable purred from the passenger seat.

Kevin nodded in agreement. He’d set some time aside for her when they got settled in. That is… if she didn’t find him first. The heifer was surprisingly well informed of his comings and goings. It wouldn’t be out of the question for her to turn up on her own terms. Not that it ever bothered him. She was a lovely woman, and he enjoyed making her happy.

“S’pose, it’s also a good thing that it’s still standing,” Kevin joked.

“Don’t laugh about that,” Bast grumped from the back seat. “It wouldn’t be the first time.”

Kevin frowned but didn’t say anything else. Being a fallen goddess, she likely had a point there. Historically, there were several fires of importance that seemed to precede the fall of several empires.

Kevin pulled into his parking space beside the house, while the others continued on towards the official parking area. Most of them weren’t staying. Katherine, Mabel, Penelope, Sam and Cassie were just dropping off passengers before they would all head home. For now, Kevin had an important conversation to deal with.

He made his way over to the parking lot and found Penelope standing with the rescue kitty. Both of them looked like they were troubled and Kevin decided it was better to have this conversation now, rather than later.

“Penelope,” Kevin smiled. “How was the drive?”

“It was fine,” Penelope smiled. “I think Honey and I got off well.”

“Honey?” Kevin asked, glancing at the kitty.

She nodded, “I… I like it. And… um…”

“Honey, do you want to come inside and get settled?” She frowned, and Kevin smiled. “Or would you rather go home with Penelope?”

“Penelope!” she mrowed before stepping back towards the woman, who blinked in shock.

“What did she say?”

“She said enough,” Kevin smiled. “Have you got the cream for her wounds?”

“Yes, of course!”

“Great,” Kevin smiled. “Make sure to bring her in tomorrow so Mary can check her over again. We can take care of her needs ourselves now.”

“Wait… so… I can adopt?”

Kevin thought for a moment and sighed. “Let’s call it fostering for now. Just in case anything changes. I don’t want to make promises I can’t keep.”

“Okay,” Penelope nodded. She clearly didn’t like the lack of conviction, but she understood.

“Can I call her mistress?” Honey asked.

Kevin smiled. “It won’t hurt. But she can’t understand you like I can.”

“Thank you,” she smiled and turned to hug Penelope.

Kevin watched the way they interacted and felt a small tug on his arm. He turned as Bast leaned in and nuzzled his cheek.

“This—every part of it, from the healing to the love. It feeds back to me.”

“That’s good then,” Kevin smiled.

“Very,” Bast smiled. “I’m going to reward you later.”

“Didn’t I get a reward just yesterday?” Kevin asked.

“Lucky boy,” Bast purred as she turned and strode back to the house.

With Honey’s housing situation handled, there was nothing left but to unpack the cars and say goodbye to those who weren’t staying.
